VITAL is a 2025 Single Stair Competition Finalist

We are proud to announce that our project, "VITAL," has been selected as a finalist in the 2025 National Single Stair Architectural Design Competition (Portland Block)!

This competition challenges architects to champion "Point Access Blocks"—single-stair multi-family buildings—as a vital solution to the North American housing crisis. Currently, dual-exit mandates force the construction of "double-loaded corridor" layouts. These structures require massive lots and expensive land assembly, driving up costs and saturating the market with small studios rather than family-sized homes.

"VITAL" was designed to demonstrate how single-stair typologies can unlock the potential of narrow, space-constrained lots in high-opportunity neighborhoods. Our proposal visualizes a future where removing the second-stair requirement facilitates denser, more diverse, and family-friendly housing.
